What to expect

Some Groodles are still maturing through this period, especially larger individuals. You may see greater concentration alongside bursts of exuberance. Practise relaxed greetings, lead skills and settling so adventures stay enjoyable for both of you.

Everyday care for your Groodle

Give structured opportunities to sniff, explore and rest. Build grooming tolerance with short, predictable sessions. Check coat and ears after outings and use the separate coat-care guide for bath-day planning.

Food, exercise & rest

Confirm that growth is complete before changing the feeding plan. Build fitness gradually for longer walks or hikes, and account for hot weather. Repeated high-speed ball chasing should not become their only form of exercise.

What to watch for

Look for stiffness after rest, a recurring limp or reluctance on stairs. Hip dysplasia can affect large mixed-breed dogs and is not ruled out by enthusiasm during play. Persistent ear scratching, head shaking or skin irritation also warrants a check.

Questions for your vet

Discuss comfortable movement, adult weight and any family history of joint, eye or heart problems. A DNA report does not replace the clinical screening your vet recommends.

Use the Australian health calendar to plan prevention. Vaccine timing depends on the product, history and local risk. For tick-risk areas, ask about effective prevention and daily tick checks.

A small thing to try together

Prepare a realistic outing plan: walking time, water, shade, a rest stop and a way home if your Groodle becomes tired. Increase the challenge only when they recover comfortably.
