What to expect

You may see a more settled companion, although emotional maturity varies. Keep practising the skills that make life together easier: relaxed greetings, settling beside you and coping with short periods apart. A sudden behaviour change should not automatically be blamed on adolescence.

Everyday care for your Cavoodle

Give your Cavoodle choices between a quiet retreat and family time. Use a familiar cue for settling, reward relaxed behaviour and keep grooming appointments predictable. Check the skin beneath the curls rather than judging coat health by its appearance.

Food, exercise & rest

If growth is complete, review an adult feeding plan with your vet. Establish a weight and body-condition baseline so gradual gain is easier to catch. Increase walking challenges gradually and allow sniffing breaks; adjust for heat, fatigue and your own dog’s fitness.

What to watch for

Keep heart examinations on the routine-care agenda because of their Cavalier background. A new cough or loss of stamina needs assessment; it is not proof of heart disease. Notice gum soreness, persistent bad breath, rubbing at the eyes or a repeated limp.

Questions for your vet

Ask your vet to record a baseline examination and discuss any family history of heart, eye or knee problems. Confirm prevention for your location and any boarding or daycare requirements.

Use the Australian health calendar to plan prevention. Vaccine timing depends on the product, history and local risk. For tick-risk areas, ask about effective prevention and daily tick checks.

A small thing to try together

Build a simple care note on your phone: food amount, comfortable walking route, grooming preference and one question for the next appointment.
