What to expect

A slower pace can still include plenty of curiosity and affection. Do not assume new pain, confusion or accidents are simply old age. Your Cavoodle’s senior stage should be judged individually rather than by a single birthday.

Everyday care for your Cavoodle

Keep favourite resting places easy to reach, add grip where they slip and offer more frequent toilet opportunities if needed. Retain familiar cues and gentle social time. Ask your vet about pain relief if getting comfortable is difficult.

Food, exercise & rest

Review weight, muscle condition and appetite together. A senior label on food does not replace an individual nutrition plan, particularly with diagnosed disease. Offer shorter, comfortable outings and quiet scent games at home.

What to watch for

Pay particular attention to a new cough, fainting or breathing changes. If heart disease is diagnosed, ask your vet to show you how to monitor breathing at home and what change should trigger a call. Laboured breathing or collapse requires emergency veterinary help.

Questions for your vet

Discuss a senior check-up schedule, dental comfort, mobility and whether blood or urine screening is appropriate. Bring a list of all medicines and supplements, plus notes about drinking, toileting and sleep.

Use the Australian health calendar to plan prevention. Vaccine timing depends on the product, history and local risk. For tick-risk areas, ask about effective prevention and daily tick checks.

A small thing to try together

Keep a short comfort diary: eating, resting, moving and moments they enjoyed. Share a pattern of difficult days early so care can be adjusted.
