Cavoodles: 3 years to senior

From age 3 until their individual senior stage. Choose another chapter below whenever you need it.

What to expect

The familiar routines often feel easier now. Use that familiarity to notice change: taking longer to finish a walk, avoiding the sofa or withdrawing from games can matter more than whether your Cavoodle still greets you happily.

Everyday care for your Cavoodle

Keep brushing, dental care and calm handling part of ordinary days. Check for lumps while grooming and note their location if you find one. A photo and date are useful records, but a vet should assess a new or changing lump.

Food, exercise & rest

Match portions to current condition and activity rather than the appetite they had when younger. Keep enjoyable movement regular, with recovery after more demanding days. Ask for an individual plan if a heart or joint condition has been diagnosed.

What to watch for

Cavalier ancestry makes routine heart checks particularly relevant in adulthood. Ask what any newly detected murmur means and whether further tests are needed. Do not wait for coughing before attending scheduled checks. Report neck sensitivity, recurrent limping or changes in vision.

Questions for your vet

Take a record of changes in stamina, sleep, appetite or weight. Ask about heart and dental assessment, the appropriate examination interval, and when senior screening would suit their size and health history.

Use the Australian health calendar to plan prevention. Vaccine timing depends on the product, history and local risk. For tick-risk areas, ask about effective prevention and daily tick checks.

A small thing to try together

Walk a familiar route at your Cavoodle’s comfortable pace. Note whether they still choose the same rests and sniffing stops; a change is a useful conversation starter with your vet.

These chapters organise care; they are not fixed biological milestones. Parent-breed risks are discussion points, not a diagnosis or a prediction that your Cavoodle will develop a condition. New concerning signs can occur at any age.
