Make home kinder
- Add secure non-slip surfaces where paws lose grip.
- Consider a stable ramp for difficult changes in height.
- Offer comfortable, accessible bedding and easy access to water.
- Keep walks enjoyable, with shorter outings and rest as needed.
Keep a comfort diary
Record appetite, sleep, toileting, movement and enjoyment. Share a new pattern with your vet rather than assuming it is “just age”. Ask about pain, dental health, nutrition and an appropriate examination schedule.
Food and connection
A senior label alone does not identify the best diet. Ask for a plan based on weight, muscle and medical needs. Keep familiar games accessible and let your dog choose quiet company when they need it.
